Government is ‘playing politics’ with further education college crisis
A mere 13 college all in Labour areas given the go-ahead
Graham Evans, Weaver Vales Concervative Prospective MP, expressed deep concern this week at the news that Labour Ministers have now given the go-ahead to a mere 13 of the 144 frozen college building projects. Every one of the approved projects is in a Labour-held seat.
Graham remarked: I have to confess to a personal interest in the development of Mid Chehsire College, as my wive attended it in the 1980s!
Mid Cheshire College is an outstanding college and deserves to be treated better. My under standing is that this project is ready to go and therefore the delay in approval is unnessasay. It concerns me deeply that the Labour Minister makes ambiguous statements about a review later on in the year!
I urge Weaver Vales Labour MP to rigorously lobby his Labour Minister colleagues and to insist on a positive decision now, his Labour MP colleagues have done so elsewhere in the country, why cannot he do the same for Cheshire .
After almost a year of delay, 131 colleges building projects, including Mid Cheshire College, still have not got the go-ahead. Cheshires parents and students will rightly be very disappointed by this latest announcement.
Further education colleges have been plunged into financial turmoil and teaching plans disrupted. Only a select few Labour areas have received support. Ministers are playing politics in this crisis. This is yet more proof that the Labour Government is failing to deliver and cant be trusted with taxpayers money.
