Shadow Secretary of State David Willetts MP Visits Frodsham

The Shadow Secretary of State for Education and Skills, David Willetts MP, recently visited CastlePark, Frodsham with Vale Royal Borough Council Conservative candidates.

CastlePark is the green heart of Frodsham, one of the principle market towns of Cheshire. An attractive park which includes formal gardens and lawns originally laid out by Edward Kemp, tennis courts, bowling greens and a children's play area

As with many public spaces, the Park had deteriorated over the years and the house was falling into disrepair. Previous administrations at Vale Royal had struggled to fund basic operations and 5 years ago had considered selling off the House for residential property.

Following strong local opposition and a change to a Conservative led council in 2003, Vale Royal embarked on a major refurbishment project at CastlePark, one of 3 major regeneration projects across the Borough. With the creation of Frodsham Forward, £2.2m was secured from both EU and UK sources to create a modern facility in a historic building, bringing local services to Frodsham for the first time and business premises for small companies.

Vale Royal is well under way with the complementary phase of restoration and regeneration in CastlePark and is working up a scheme for HLF to deliver a £3m program of enhancements to recreation facilities for the residents of the greater Frodsham area.

David Willetts MP said "It is great to be here in Frodsham. It is great to have the support of the local candidates in the local elections.  I hope the people of Frodsham will be served by a Conservative Council with a clear majority.  It is great to see the restoration of this fine house.  John Prescott believes in knocking down old buildings. Conservatives believe in restoring them for public use.''
