Conference 2006: Bournemouth gives a new direction
The Conference in Bournemouth in October was a very positive affair and in line with the unveiling of the new logo and new approach from our new leader David Cameron, the Conference also had a new time frame running from Sunday to Wednesday, a day earlier than usual which was far more convenient for those having to take time off from work to attend.
The new timescale and positive approach from the party may well have contributed to a 25% increase in numbers that attending to around 7,500.
As usual alongside the big speeches in Conference Hall there were numerous fringe events during the Conference, giving an opportunity for issues such as Social Justice and Disability Awareness a chance to be discussed alongside more mainstream issues such as the economy.
As for entertainment, Boris Johnson did not disappoint and both William Hague and Alan Duncan gave first class speeches with a humerous touch.
Weaver Vale were represented at the Conference and Convention by our Deputy Chairman (F&M) Charles Fifield, who once again managed to sneak onto the seating platform on the stage for the Leaders closing speech.
