Graham supports residents campaign to keep open local pub

One of the few pubs left open in the Leftwich area is facing closure and being replaced by a retail outlet. Popular local pub, the Pillar of Salt on Clifton Drive, is a vital centre to the local community and a peition of over 800 residents was previously submitted to the Council in opposition to the plans. Graham Evans MP has voiced his concerns in a letter to Council Chief Executive, Steve Robinson.
Graham commented on the worrying trend of pub closures in Cheshire, "When out and about across my constituency, the sight of boarded up pubs has become all too familiar. The last Labour Government hit pubs hard by continuously forcing up business rates, adding pages and pages of new regulations and red tape, and hiking alcohol taxation. There have been reports that across the UK, more than seven pubs are closing every day of the week. We must do all we can to stop this trend and protect the great British pub, which is such a vital part of our communities and culture."
"I am pleased that the new Conservative-led Government will be delivering on its promise to make small business rate relief automatic, which will be a big help to many local businesses in Cheshire, not just pubs. I also believe that we should shift the burden of alcohol taxation to target drinks specifically associated with binge drinking, rather than punishing responsible drinkers."
